As part of efforts to boost peace and security of lives and property in Ethiope East Local Government Area, the Council Chairman, Rt. Hon (Pharm) Victor Ofobrukueta has donated eight Toyota Sienna vehicles to Delta State Community Security Corps Ethiope East Command.

While presenting the vehicles to the various communities vigilantes at Ethiope East Secretariat, yesterday, Hon Ofobrukueta disclosed that the gesture is to compliment the effort of Delta state governor, Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa in maintaining peace and order in the state.

Hon Ofobrukueta while addressing members of the Delta state community Security Corps, Ethiope East Command also known as the vigilante, said the Toyota Sienna vehicles presented to them should be used to fight crime in their various communities in the areas.

He stated that it has been the desire of the Delta State Governor, Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa to see to it that vigilantes are infused as a major partner to the Nigeria police Force and other security agencies in order to assist them to gather information that will lead to curbing of crime in the society .

Speaking further, Ofobrukueta said: “Because of the importance of the
Delta state community Security Corps to the communities, the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has commenced the provision of security outfits to vigilantes across the state and also commenced payment of monthly stipends to encourage the vigilante so as to perform better.

“The state governor had directed the Council Chairman to make Security and environment their top priority, stressing that the directive informed their decision to provide eight vehicles to the vigilantes in order to support the state government effort in the sustenance of peace and security.

He urged them to use the vehicles for the purpose it was purchased for and assist the security agencies to curb crime, adding that anytime the police have need for the vehicles as back up they should make it available .

Presidents General of UPU, Okpara and Umiaghwa, Abraka, Mr Ese Owe represented by Chief Glory Ovwamuedo, Chief Esosuoakpo Ete and chief Monday Arawore commended the Ethiope East Council chairman for the gesture, saying that it will go a long way to fight crime in the various communities and encouraged the vigilantes to maintain the vehicles.

Also speaking, the DPO of Abraka Police Divison, Mr Efehi Ayameh and the representative of the DPO of Isiokolo Police Division, Mr Sunday Ideho charged the vigilantes to abide by the laws that mandated them to carry out their lawful duties.

Meanwhile the Ethiope East Local Government chairman Hon Victor Ofoburukueta has also donated three Toyota vehicles each to the Head of Personnel Management of the council ,Mr Hope Ighomore , Secretary to the local Government , Hon Ray Aganbi and the leader of Ethiope East Legislative Arm, Hon Emmanuel Emojeya .

The programme featured prayers to the vigilantes that God should protect them as they carry out their duties while the highlight of the event was the inauguration of the new Vehicles by Chief Young Esekpe, past Chairman of the local government.
