Equity market ends week with 0.13% growth

Trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday grew marginally to end the week on a positive note.

Market capitalization which opened at N15.242 trillion rose by N19 billion to close at N15.261 trillion.

The NSE All-Share Index appreciated to 29,628.84 from 29,591.29, representing a growth of 37.33 points or 0.13 per cent.

A breakdown of the gainers’ table indicates that Betaglass led the gainers’ table, growing by N6.10 to close at N70 per share.

Seplat followed with a gain of N5 to close at N605, while Dangote Cement also garnered N5 to close at N179.90 per share.

Julius Berger gained N1.50 to close at N21.50, while Lafarge Africa added 30k to close at N17.50 per share.

Conversely, MTN Nigeria recorded the highest loss to lead the losers’ table, shedding N2 to close at N125 per share.

Unilever trailed with a loss of N1.90 to close at N17.55, while Dangote Sugar was down by 75k to close at N13.90 per share.

NCR shed 35k to close at N3.31, while FBN Holdings declined by 20k to close at N7.30 per share.

An analysis of the activity chart shows that Guaranty Trust Bank was the most active stock, exchanging 34.31 million shares valued at N1.10 billion.

NAHCO followed with an account of 15.93 million shares worth N38.336 million, while Transcorp traded 15.05 million shares valued at N15.56 million.

Chams accounted for 11.45 million shares worth N3.87 million, while Zenith Bank traded 11.04 million shares valued at N242.24 million .

In all, the volume of shares traded dropped by 6.28 per cent as investors bought and sold 184.56 million shares worth N3.51 billion in 3,852 deals.

This was against 196.93 million shares valued at N7.71 billion exchanged in 2,915 deals on Thursday.
