Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has approved the inauguration of a Judicial Panel of Inquiry to investigate allegations of extra-judicial killings and brutality by security agents in the state.
This is in line with the recommendations of the National Economic Council and Governors Forum as part of efforts to quell the agitation of young Nigerians protesting under the social media hashtag of #EndSARS against human rights abuses by the police.
The panel of inquiry has Retired Justice S N Imo as Chairman; while the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice will serve as Secretary.
Other members are Bishop Sunday Onuoha; Nwakanma John; Daniel Chinagozi; Ariwa Zuby; Eric Ikwuagwu; Comrade John Emejor; Comrade Nnanna Nwafor; and Mrs Doris Ogala.
A statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, said the Committee would be inaugurated on Friday, October 23, 2020, at Government House, Umuahia.
