Barely two weeks after the bloody end to the peaceful #EndSARS protests, 720 youths have embarked on 24 hours of prayers for Nigeria.
The protest, which was embarked upon by young Nigerians, ended after the soldiers shot and killed several protesters at Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos on October 20, and miscreants took over, burning and looting public and private properties.
The youths under the aegis of Youth Reformers Network (an expression of Nehemiah Apostolic Resource Centre) and Watchmen and Intercessors Network Nigeria, said the prayer which started on November 1 would last till the end of the month.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, the National Coordinator, Young Reformers Network, Izu Samuel, said the group was concerned about the way the protesters were handled and how the protests ended.
According to him, “With the recent activities in our country against youth protesters, the looting and destruction of property by persons parading as youths who have no interest in our cause for a Nigeria where things work, calls for prayers”.
Izu explained that the prayer initiative is “a youth led programme to pray for God to raise in our generation, youths who are ready to be part of building a new Nigeria and willing to serve as ethical leaders. The message is that God is looking to raise youths who will grow as ‘Oaks of Righteousness’. What a time to be alive as a youth of Nigeria descent”.
Izu, who was flanked at the briefing by several youth leaders, noted that the Nigerian youths were united in their belief and desire for a better country where things work.
“We the Nigerian youth are one, with one voice. This is a programme for all youth. We are calling on all youths who believe God can change a nation through us to join in this prayer movement”, he added.
