Against the background of festering cult practices and resultant criminality in Edo State, the Traditional Ruler of solid-mineral rich Iyuku community in Etsako-West local government area (LGA) of Edo State, Chief Ilegieuno Bawakson Zekeriyau has come down hard on cultists saying that the rid-Edo-State-of-cultists mantra of the Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo must be actuated by traditional institutions in the local places.
Speaking with ExpressDay Newspaper on Wednesday after a meeting with his Daudus, Okwighikugbe said his domain Iyuku will not tolerate any cult practices and Governor Monday Okpebholo should be encouraged by Monarchs in Edo State to win the war against cultism and associated crimes.
“There is a nexus between cultism and robbery, raping, banditry and the likes. The Governor must be encouraged to win the war against cultism. That is why we are traditional rulers”.
Continuing, Chief Ilegieuno said, “In this Iyuku, I’ve issued a standing order that no cultist should be accommodated. The vigilantes and hunters have my instructions to flush out any cultists or criminal elements”.
The traditional ruler urged his colleagues across the State to be alert at all times in knowing strangers who go into their dormains and what they are doing.
