Ahead of the forthcoming People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries in Edo State, the central senatorial district of the party has adopted Barrister Asue Ighodalo as a preferred governorship aspirant it intends to market to the rest of the parts in the state.
In a news release signed by the senatorial caucus Chairman, Archbishop Anthony Okosun; senatorial caucus Secretary, Barrister Lockson Ogedegbe and the senatorial legal adviser, Barrister Paul Itua and made available to Expressday on Thursday, the party said it reached the decision after due consultations which enjoys the total endorsement of a national leader and former Minister of Foreign Affairs who hails from the zone, Chief Tom Ikimi.
“The Edo clCentral PDP accepted the recommendation of the special committee and has adopted Barrister Asue Ighodalo as the consensus aspirant of the PDP from the Edo central senatorial district “, the news release stated.
The PDP leaders noted that their choice is without prejudice to the right of any other interested individual from the zone or other parts of the state for that matter to pursue his quest to be the next Governor of Edo State.
“The senatorial caucus mandated the special committee to lead Asue Ighodalo and introduce him to all stakeholders in the state as the consensus aspirant of the Edo central PDP”, the release added.
As this newspaper learnt, it is a widely held view that Asue Ighodalo is the preferred aspirant of the Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki.
The Governor would not respond to calls or messages when this reporter tried to feel his pulse on the matter.
