Delta State Government has confirmed another three new cases of Coronavirus in the State, bringing the total recorded so far to 31.
Two of the three new cases were said to have been recorded in Sapele Local Government Area while one case was recorded in Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.
The State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, confirmed the new cases in a post on his official Facebook page on Thursday.
He said: “This is the first time Sapele would be recording Covid-19 cases since the outbreak of the virus in the state”.
Aniagwu stated that of the 31 confirmed cases, the state had recorded six deaths with 12 of the patients discharged while 13 are currently active and undergoing treatment at various isolation centres across the state.
Meanwhike, the Director-General of the Delta State Orientation Bureau, Eugene Azuka Uzum, has enjoined those currently spreading fake news about the existence of the Covid-19 in the State and beyond to stop forthwith.
Uzum made the call in Asaba while speaking to newsmen on the existence of the pandemic in the country
He expressed concern that some people still see the existence of the pandemic in the country as a scam, wondering what States and the Federal Government stood to gain from shutting down all sectors of the economy, if not to curb the spread of the dreaded virus and save lives of residents in the country.
Uzum lamented the stories emanating from some of the discharged patients from the isolation centres, who instead of being grateful to the State government for giving them free quality medicare while in the centres, resorted to misinforming the public on the existence of the pandemic in the state, thereby creating carefree attitude among residents concerning the protocols of the virus.
He stressed that every move by the State government on curbing the spread of the novel virus was tailored towards saving residents from contracting and spreading the pandemic in the state.
He added that it ran against the grain of proper reasoning for any government to commit huge resources in combating a pandemic that is not in existence.
