Two top officials of the Nasarawa State government have been arrested by the police for contravening the social distance order of the government.
They are currently cooling their feet in police cell.
ExpressDay reports that the two officials are the Overseer of Lafia North Development Area, Alhaji Suleman Agyo and the Acting Registrar of Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic (formerly Nasarawa Polytechnic ) Lafia, Mukhtar Wakeel.
The Nasarawa State Police Command said that the government officials were arrested for violating the proclamation by Governor Abdullahi Sule on restriction of public and social gathering in the state.
The wedding video of the Overseer went viral on social media in Lafia, the state capital, as he married a second wife in Lungun Wambai area of the state capital.
A police source said that the development prompted the police to arrest the groom, Suleman Agyo and his friend, Wakeel who featured in the video.
According to the source, the two government officials passed the night in detention at “A” Division and investigation is ongoing.
When contacted, the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Abdulkarim Kana, confirmed the arrest.
According to him, the proclamation by the Governor is binding on everybody, no matter how highly placed one is in the society.
He further said the violators would continue to remain in detention and would be charged to court immediately the courts resume.
