By Francis Simon
The Senator representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District in Nasarawa State, Senator Godiya Akwashike, has distributed cash and food items worth over N40 million to members of his constituency.
This is part of measures to alleviate the hardship of his constituents and as well as serve as support to Muslim faithful during the Ramadan period.
The distribution took place at Nasarawa Eggon Guest House, central to the three local government areas, namely Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon and Wamba, which make up the Nasarawa North senatorial zone.
The items distributed, included 2,400 bags of rice, 1,200 cartons of noodles, 150 bags of millet, 150 bags of beans, 50 bags of sugar and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Speaking while distributing the items, Akwashiki called on the people of his constituency to use the month of Ramadan to pray for peace and the current challenges.
He also called on Nasarawa citizens and Nigerians in general to abide by the rules and regulations of the lockdown in order to avert any more disaster.
He, however, assured his constituents that giving his new position as the Chairman Senate Committee on Labour and Employment, he will ensure that Nigerian youth are gainfully engaged.
“I have always advised my children and friends that my desire to be in leadership position is not to gather wealth or that I should be known for building houses, but it gladdens me to see that people are happy,” Senator Akwashiki said.
