Plans have been concluded for the Coordinator, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu, to address to journalists on the reportage of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Another lead speaker at the event which is billed for next week, August 12, between 3 – 4.30pm, is the President of CHESTRAD Global, Dr. Lola Dare.

The gathering which will be through a Webinar is being organized by International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH) and CHESTRAD Global.

A statement signed by the ISMPH Programs Director, Solomon Dogo, and made available to journalists in Abuja, Friday, revealed that the Webinar meeting would further help to sharpen the skills of journalists in the reportage of COVD-19 pandemic and also provide accurate information that could also help reduce the spread of the virus.

“On the media side will be the Director General of National Orientation Agency, Dr. Garba Abari, and other top media executives who will be presenting papers, while the Executive Director of International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH), Moji Makanjuola, will moderate the session,” the statement noted.

ISMPH, according to the statement, consists of a hub of health journalists with the aim to mainstream the media as a potent tool to accelerate health care information and delivery in Nigeria.

“Nigeria with its huge population has had to contend with the challenge of fake news and misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic which are often spread through the social media and sadly consumed by a large segment of the society even as the populace are desperate for answers to some unclear issues about the pandemic,” the statement lamented.
