Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, representing Nasarawa South senatorial district of Nasarawa State, has procured and distributed 3,000 bags of rice as palliatives to the poorest residents of his constituency.
At the distribution of the items in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, on Wednesday, Almakura said the gesture was to cushion the impact of stay at home directive by government to curb the spread of COVID 19 pandemic.
According to him, as a representative, he was mindful of the hardship residents of his constituency were passing through as all their means of livelihood had been disrupted in order to contain the virus.
Senator Tanko Almakura commended the efforts of both the federal and Nasarawa state governments for the steps they have taken so far in combating COVID-19.
He, therefore, called on residents of the state to remain resolute and cooperate with government to prevent the spread of the disease.
Each of the 53 Electoral Wards in Nasarawa South Senatorial zone was given 50 bags of rice.
