The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, has commended the Delta State Government for the proactive steps it had so far taken to rid the state of the pandemic.
It, however, called for the establishment of a treatment and testing centre for the disease in the Ughelli axis of the State.
Speaking shortly after an emergency meeting of the chapel in preparation of the July 2, 2020 election of the State Council of the union, it’s Acting Chairman, Comrade Sunday Apah, noted that “ever since the outbreak of Covid-19, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has been working round the clock to tackle and curtail the spread of the pandemic.
“He has taken various steps to mitigate the effects of the attendant adverse economic condition on the people and this is highly commendable.
“The sudden rise in the number of persons testing positive to Covid-19 in the State in the last one month is due to the provision of testing machines at Asaba, the State capital by the state government.
“If a testing and treatment centre is established in the Ughelli axis, more Covid-19 positive persons would be easily identified and treated”, he said.
