Covid-19: Nigeria issues travel ban on India, Brazil, Turkey

Nigeria has issued a fresh travel restriction on Brazil, India and Turkey following the resurgence in cases of Covid-19 in the affected countries.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mr. Boss Mustapha who doubles as Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, in a statement explained that the decision is meant to forestall a spike in Covid-19 infection in Nigeria.

Mustapha said “any person who has visited Brazil, India or Turkey within Fourteen (14) days preceding travel to Nigeria, shall be denied entry into Nigeria,” adding that “henceforth PCR test results older than 72 hours before departure shall not be accepted”.

He added that any individual who breaks the new travel guideline will be prosecuted while airlines will be fined $3,500 per defaulting passenger.

The fresh travel guidelines will come into effect on Tuesday, May 4.
