COVID-19: Nasarawa Govt sensitises traditional, religious leaders
The Nasarawa State Government has organized a sensitisation workshop for traditional, religious leaders and other stakeholders in the state in order to educate them on the preventive measures against Covid-19.
The royal fathers, religious leaders and the stakeholders are to cascade the message to their followers.
The sensitization workshop was organized by the state Ministry of Health and the Ministry Information and Culture. Both commissioners of the two ministries were in attendance.
The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Health, Ahmed Baba, insisted that personal hygiene and regular hand washing with clean water and soap were the best preventive approaches against diseases.
He, however, assured the state government had put in place adequate measures to ensure that the virus did not get to the state.
He disclosed that the state government had since established two isolation centres; one at the Federal Medical Center, Keffi, and the other at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), situated in Lafia, the state capital.
According to the Commissioner: “Synergy for the purpose of creating awareness and sensitisation is key in the fight against the coronavirus.
“I want to commend the Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, for the commitment and dedication towards the health of residents of the state. This has yielded tremendous result in the control of Laser fever outbreak in the state.
“So I urged all relevant stakeholders present in this meeting to make conscious commitment by taking the massage to your community members, Churches and Mosques, so that our people will be aware of the preventive measures against the disease.”
On his part, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dogo Shammah, applauded the initiative of bringing all relevant stakeholders on a round table in order to sensitize them on all the need to know about the Covid-19.
He noted that with continued education backed by the preventive measures so far put in place by the state government, the residents of the state will be free from not only coronavirus but other life communicable diseases.
The stakeholders, on their part, vowed to cascade the message to their followers at all levels for proper understanding.
