Hotel owners and commercial sex workers in Nasarawa State have cried out due to low patronage occasioned by the restriction order announced by the state government.
Following the restriction order, the hotel owners and commercial sex workers said that patronage has cut to near zero level, stressing that: “We consider ourselves as the worst hit by Covid-19.”
Findings by Expressday revealed that due to low patronage, most commercial sex workers in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, have since vacated their brothels.
The situation, according to residents of the area will become worst in the days ahead considering that the Nasarawa State Government has declared a 24 hours curfew in Karu, the local government that shares boundary with the FCT.
The government has partially shut Lafia, the state capital since Thursday, when it restricted movement to between 6am to 8pm daily.
Responding to question from Expressday, Martins Williams, the manager of one of the popular relaxation spots in Lafia, disclosed that many commercial sex workers have left the town to their various villages for fear of the Coronavirus.
When contacted, a commercial sex worker who only gave her name as Jenifa, disclosed that some of her friends have since left to their home towns because there has been low patronage.
According to her, even when the customers come around what they offer is far below the normal price of N500.00 for “short time”.
“We no longer get men who come at late night for “day-break”, which we used to get as much as N5000.00 and sometime if you are lucky, a man can offer you N10,000.00.
“But with this sickness, even before government stopped movement in the night, our customers have all ran away, the hot weather too has contributed,” she lamented.
