A vaccinologist and Senior Lecturer with the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Dr. Akyala Ishaku, has applauded the Nasarawa state government for putting measures in place to contain the spread of coronavirus disease in the state.
Ishaku gave the commendation in an exclusive interview with ExpressDay in Lafia, the State capital.
He noted that the State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, had been very proactive in putting measures in place to fight the disease.
According to the medical expert, the efforts of the state government, despite its financial status as a mono economy state that depends solely on federal allocation, has been quite commendable.
He, however, noted that there were lots of areas the government needed to improve on.
“The government has done excellently well, since the prevalent of the disease in the state, but much is still expected to be put in place.
“As I speak to you, it will not be out of place for the state to establish two or more testing centers”, Akyala said.
He added that more advocacy and sensitisation campaigns were needed and that it would be better done with the involvement of the media and practicing journalists in the State in order to disseminate the reality of the disease to the grassroots to dispel what some see as a scam.
