
Three doctors, a pharmacist and a medical laboratory technician have been asked to go into isolation following their contact with a patient who has tested positive to Covid-19 in Delta State.
The female patient was attended to at the Otu-Jeremi general hospital in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.
The medical team which comprised of three doctors on National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), a pharmacist and a medical laboratory scientist, are currently being quarantined alongside a female nurse working in the hospital.
A senior staff member of the hospital who spoke on condition of anonymity said the patient, aged 36, had visited the hospital in the company of her boyfriend and upon diagnosis, the patient was discovered to have tuberculosis and was showing symptoms of Covid-19.
The source said: “Her sample was taken to Irrua Hospital, Edo State on April 17th for Covid-19 test and the result came out positive.”
Another source who spoke to the ExpressDay said the female patient (name withheld) visited the hospital on 17th April, 2020, and on examination, she was diagnosed of tuberculosis (TB), and a suspected case of covid-19.
“She was later referred to a General Hospital at Warri, where her blood samples were taken for covid-19 test at Irua Hospital at Edo State and the patient results came out on 21st April 2020, and she tested positive to the covid-19.
According to the source, “Though the patient is not in Otu-Jeremi, but paid a visit to the boy friend at Otor-Udu Community in Udu LGA and she was taken to the general hospital for treatment after her sample had been taken to Irua before now”.
The Ughelli South Local Government Chairman, Dr. Richard Kofi who confirmed the case said he went to the hospital and made sure those who came in contact with the patient were placed on isolation.
