The traditional ruler of Effurun-Otor Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM (Dr) Johnson King Duku II, has promised to provide free face masks to his subjects.
The monarch, who has sponsored the mass production of the face masks, explained that the gesture was part of measures aimed at checking the spread of the dreaded coronavirus.
The traditional ruler, who spoke to journalists on the gesture at his palace in Effurun-Otor, near Ughelli, also warned that buyers and sellers to always adorn their face masks on market days of the community.
He further stated that the face masks directive would also affect business transactions in stores, warning that the directive will be enforced by local vigilante youths in the area.
While speaking on the lockdown directed by Delta State Government, the traditional ruler noted that it was painful but inevitable.
“It is the surest measure to overcome the pandemic. Countries that toyed with it, are the ones suffering the effects of Covid-19-19 most in the World today,” Duku II stated.
He however cautioned that true test must be carried out to know the actual level of the spread of the disease in Nigeria.
He called for contributions from the elite of the kingdom to provide foods items to the vulnerable people which include the aged, widows amongst others, as part of palliatives at this time.
The traditional ruler, who was a contributor to the fund, also disclosed that hundreds of packs containing the said food items had been distributed to the beneficiaries.
