No fewer than 80 persons were arrested in Ughelli, Delta State by the Council Chairman, Chief Godwin Adode for violating the social distancing order by the State Governor over the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
ExpressDay gathered that the violators were rounded up at Adam’s Event Centre at Ighwrekpokpor in Ughelli following information that the event centre was filled to capacity.
Adode expressed disappointment in the management of the Event Centre for accommodating a population more than two hundred persons despite the massive sensitization campaign by the state government and the Ughelli North Council.
In his words, “I personally had a meeting with all hotel proprietors and owners of Event Centres in the council area to adhere strictly to the state government directives on the closure of down of hotels, event centres, clubs, and public places.
“I appealed to them to abide by the directives but see what they are doing.”
The Council Chairman who frowned at the attitudes of the violators said that the lockdown was part of efforts to see how the spread of the novel Coronavirus in the state could be curbed.
Chief Adode noted that the action of the management of Adams Event Centre had contravened the order of Federal Government of Nigeria and directives of the Delta State Government.
