Covid-19: Dangote truck rams into vehicles distributing food items in Delta

Last Updated: April 7, 2020By

A truck belonging to Dangote Cement company has rammed into four vehicles that were conveying food items to communities to cushion the impact of COVID-19 lockdown.

The truck loaded with cement crashed into four vehicles that were parked around Agbarho junction, East West road, in Ughelli North local government area, Delta State, on Monday.

ExpressDay gathered that the drivers of the four damaged vehicles just returned from distribution of food items to people in nearby villages for the lockdown and were parked on the side of the expressway, awaiting further instructions from the team leader.

Eyewitnesses said many people would have died if the rain had not dispersed people from the scene before the accident.

“The start of the heavy rain forced (the drivers) to take cover under a storey building located opposite where the cars were parked and about five minutes later, came the sound of the truck crashing into the vehicles”, the witness said.

No life was lost, but one of the cars was badly damaged by the truck.

One of the owners of the vehicles involved in the accident, Mr. Silver Odjegba, said the rainfall saved them from being fatal casualties in the accident.

“It was the rain that saved our lives. I will first of all thank God for saving us. I am a task force member of Delta State Management Committee on Public Motor Parks.

“I was called to distribute food stuffs to people. So I parked here with three other vehicles. The rain started falling. Immediately, we left there, we just saw Dangote truck pick up the whole vehicles.

“You can see the food stuffs on the ground. The other cars are damaged, but this is the worst,” Mr. Odjegba stated.
