Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has lifted ban imposed on churches and markets in the state as part of measures to contain the spread of the Coronavirus.

The governor in a state broadcast on Saturday eased the lockdown imposed four weeks ago, but said entrances into the state would remain shut.

ExpressDay had earlier reported that the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to relax some of the lockdown measures by allowing movements within a state but maintaining a ban on inter-state movement.

Obiano said churches were now allowed to hold activities but with the caveat that all worshipers must wear face mask and observe all standing safety and preventive measures as prescribed by health experts.

He said all food and drug markets in the state were now opened with immediate effect.

He said: “Worshipers must wear face masks and enforce all World Health Organisation guidelines during worship, including, regular hand washing, avoiding handshakes, application of hand sanitisers, social distancing and others.

“Movements around Anambra have been relaxed but all boundaries of the state remain closed,” he added.

The governor stated that he would meet with leadership of the markets in the state on April 27 on the development.

Obiano further said that reopening of schools and civil service would be announced soon.
