The House of Representatives has resolved to adjourn plenary for two weeks due to the rapid global spread of the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19), with one case already confirmed in Nigeria.
The resolution was informed by a motion moved by Mr. Josiah Edem at the plenary on Tuesday, which observed the need for adequate measures in the National Assembly to combat a possible spread of the disease.
Edem represents Ukanafun/Orukanam Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State, and his observation was amplified by consequential motion from the House Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, who suggested that parliamentary activities should be postponed for two weeks.
“This house should suspend plenary for two weeks for adequate handling of this matter and to allow management to put measures so that all of us can be be tested,” Elumelu said.
