President Muhammadu Buhari has paid glowing tribute to prominent Lagos State politician and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs. Kemi Nelson, for her relentless, steadfast support and mobilisation for his presidency.
The President bared his mind on the sterling qualities of Mrs. Nelson on Thursday when she accompanied a delegation of Nigerian women to Aso Rock on a courtesy visit to the President.
The delegation was led by Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, amidst the observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women; as well as the United Nation’s “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence”.
As he delivered his address on the occasion, President Buhari could not hide his admiration for the political activism of Mrs. Nelson as he digressed from his official speech to pick her out from the delegation to shower praises on the Lagos APC strong woman.
While describing Mrs. Nelson’s peculiar headgear style, the President appreciated the genuine support and resources she had always deployed to strengthening the Buhari presidency, to the applause of the audience.
According to the President: “I want to extend my sincere regards to the lady sitting almost off the table. I always recognise her by her headgear style. I have followed how she has been working very hard in Lagos fighting people on my behalf.
“I know I visited her office. Thank you very much and I am aware of the genuine support and the time you have been giving, and your resources. Thank you very much and regards to your family.”
Buhari went on to assure the delegation that his administration would gradually mark up and exceed the 35 percent of women participation in governance.
Describing the women as stabilisers of peace, he said that “I wish to recognise the value Nigerian women bring to our society especially when they are supported and given a voice.
“This administration is a beneficiary of the strong support of Nigerian women and I truly thank you all for the display of resilience throughout our journey.”
