President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday led top government officials and members of the diplomatic corps to honour the nation’s fallen soldiers as Nigeria marks the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Buhari was joined at the wreath-laying ceremony by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammadu, and the nation’s security chiefs as well as the dean of the diplomatic corps.

The solemn event was held at the National Arcade, opposite Eagle Square, Three Arms Zone, Abuja.

Apart from laying of wreaths, the event featured special prayers for living and fallen heroes; one-minute silence in honour of fallen heroes; 21-gun salute; release of white pigeons to represent peace and signing of the anniversary register, among others.
