Buhari nominates media aide, Lauretta Onochie, as INEC Commissioner

President Muhammadu Buhari has written the Senate requesting it to confirm the appointment of one of his media aides, Lauretta Onochie, as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to represent Delta State.

Onochie is the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media.

Others so nominated are Prof. Mohammed Sani Katsina), Prof. Kunle Ajayi (Ekiti), and Seidu Ahmed (Jigawa).

The Senate on its official Twitter handle: announced the development Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, read the letter to his colleagues on the floor of the House today.

Mixed reactions have already started trailing the announcement on social media, with a preponderance of opinions describing the nomination of Onochie as unacceptably partisan and unhealthy for the nation’s democracy.
