President Muhammadu Buhari and his immediate family members on Thursday observed the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the State House, to end one month of Ramadan fasting mandated for Muslims.
The event was held at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa at 9:00am.
The First Lady, Aisha Buhari, was seen praying with her daughters during the event.
Also at the event were the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (retd); the President’s Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, other senior presidential aides.
The President had decided on a small event instead of participating in large congregational prayers, because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
This was earlier announced in a press statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, explaining that it was in compliance with the COVID-19 non-pharmaceutical interventions put in place by the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) and the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
