A boy and a girl have reportedly died in a Christmas Day stampede in Uturkpo town in Benue State.
The incident, according to sources, happened when a music carnival was about to commence around 11pm on Christmas day.
The event was in flagrant disregard to the Covid-19 restriction put in place by the Federal Government.
The source disclosed that there was sound of gunshots allegedly fired by a policeman on duty, which led many to scamper for safety leading to the stampede.
“The gunshots triggered a stampede because we all started running out of the venue for safety.
“The sound of gunshots made me run towards the gate in fear as I did not know what was happening.
“While running, I saw two persons in the pool of their blood; a male and a female.
“Several other people also took to their heels; although it was not easy for most people to identify the location of their vehicles.
“Several onlookers stood shaken at the rail-crossing and at Upu Road and Ibadan street in utter surprise,” the source disclosed.
