The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali, has withdrawn Mohammed Barde, as the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, following the controversy that trailed the purported announcement of Aisha Binani as winner of the governorship election in the State at the weekend.

The IGP subsequently ordered Etim Equa, Commissioner of Police in Gombe to proceed to Adamawa immediately to provide election security in the state.

Muyiwa Adejobi, police spokesperson, made the announcement on Tuesday while briefing journalists in Abuja.

There had been calls for Barde to be redeployed from the State after he accompanied the Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Yunusa-Ari, to the collation center in Yola to illegally declare Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the governorship election in the State on Sunday.
