Against the background of recent expulsion of ill qualified students, the management of the Federal Polytechnic Auchi, Edo State, has vowed to continue inculcating excellence, probity and discipline in its graduates.

In an interview with ExpressDay on Thursday, the Rector Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar, who spoke through his Media Assistant, Dr. Samson Omosotomhe, said that the high rating the “institution enjoys is due to this policy”.

According to him: “The Management of Auchi Polytechnic had expelled about 40 students over results falsification and deficiency at the Point of Entry (POE) into some programmes at the institution”.

Explaining how the decision to expel the students was reached, Dr Omosotomhe disclosed that “the students were expelled following the outcome of the regular verification exercise for 2020/2021 academic session.

“The affected students were involved in forgery and falsification of results to gain admission into National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programme. The expelled students cut across different departments in the polytechnic”.

He emphasized that Auchi Polytechnic is not a breeding ground for deficient students.

“We do not admit students who are deficient in the basic requirements for entry and ask them to make them up before graduation”, the Media Assistant further told ExpressDay.

He affirmed that the rusticated students got what they deserved because the ‘Ordinary Level’ qualifications they presented were found out to be fake after thorough investigations

“If the requirements for admission to Mass Communication is five credits, including English, Mathematics and Literature in English and any other two subjects.

“The prospective candidate must show evidence of having passed these subjects at Credit level before he or she is cleared as a student of the Polytechnic”, he said.
