The Federal Government yesterday ordered the reopening of all Federal universities despite the ongoing strike action by the
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The government directed Vice Chancellors of the public universities to reopen the schools for resumption of academic activities.
The order, which came via a circular by the National Universities Commission (NUC), asked the university managements to allow students to continue academic exercises.
In the letter signed by NUC’s Director, Finance and Accounts, Mr Sam Onazi, on behalf of the Executive Secretary,Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, the government directs the vice chancellors,pro-chancellors and the governing councils of universities to,“Ensure that ASUU members immediately resume/commence lectures; Restore the daily activities and routines of the various University campuses”, the letter partly read.
ASUU has been on strike since February 14 this year and has appealed a ruling by the industry court ordering the lecturers to resume work.
