The Nigerian Presidency has urged Nigerians to be calm for now as news filters about the travel ban reported to be mulled by President Donald Trump’s White House in the United States of America.
The Wall Street Journal had reported that the Trump administration planned to add seven more countries to the America’s travel ban list, that would now include immigrants from Nigeria, Belarus, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Sudan and Tanzania; with restrictions on specific kinds of visas.
Responding to the development, the Presidency asked Nigerians who may be apprehensive over the matter to wait until the Federal Government has gotten official details of the policy and its implications before a formal response will be made.
Senior presidential media assistant, Mr. Garba Shehu, made this known in a two-paragraph statement he issued on Wednesday in response media inquiries on government’s stance,
According to him: “Yes, we have read the news that the Trump administration is planning to add a host of African, Asian and Eastern European countries to its travel restrictions list as reported by the U.S. media.
“We are not going to react to speculations. We urge you to wait for us to see what unfolds under the new policy, its scope, its reach, the implications and its consequences before we react.”
