Five armed robbers have met their end while trying to cart away millions of naira from a branch of First Bank located in Mpape, a satellite town in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

One of the robbers unfortunately loss his live during a gun battle with the combine team of police and Army.

Mpape, a densely populated settlement is 15 minutes drive from the city centre.

The bank robbery was foiled by a combined team of police operatives from the FCT Command backed up by the military following a prompt response to a distress call.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Spokesman of the FCT Police Command, ASP Yusuf Mariam, when the command got the distress call “Police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene and engaged in crossfire with the robbers thereby foiling the attack on the bank with the back up of the Military.

“Consequently, 4 suspects were arrested and one shot dead while trying to escape.”

The statement noted that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet investigation of the incident.

Residents of the FCT have been advised to remain call as normalcy has since been restored to the area.

The FCT Command further reaffirmed its commitment to nip crime in the bud and ensure safety in the FCT.
