A one-chance robbery suspect, on Wednesday, at the Jahi-Katampe Expressway of the FCT, was beaten to a state of coma by an angry mob.
The suspect was said to have died few minutes after reaching the hospital.
A statement by the Spokesman of the FCT Police Command, Manzah Anjuguri, A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), disclosed that a police officer sustain serious injury while trying to rescue the suspect from the mob.
“It is unfortunate to state that Police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives while responding to the distress call met stiff resistance from the mob, who attacked the team with dangerous weapons, leaving one of the officers with serious injuries.
“The operational car of the team was also badly damaged by the mob.
“Meanwhile, both the injured police operative and the suspect were rushed to hospital for medical care. The suspect later passed on few minutes after reaching the hospital,” the statement noted.
While urging the residents of the capital city to collaborate with the police in its continuous effort to combat crime and secure lives and property of residents of the FCT, the Command reassured its commitment to continue to put its best to ensure that all resident of the FCT are safe.
