The cold war between First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari and her husbands senior media assistant, Mallam Garba Shehu, seems to have simmered following the marriage of the latter’s son in Abuja on Friday.
The young Muhammad Garba Shehu and Miss Zuwaira Umar Faruk, got wedded in an Islamic wedding Fatiha at the An-Noor Mosque, Wuse, Abuja, attended by notable guests and government officials.
In a letter to the senior Shehu, the First Lady Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari said she would continue to pray for the success of the marriage.
“We also pray to God Almighty to bless this marriage and make their home a happy one to enjoy their union as husband and wife,” she wrote.
This was in sharp contrast to the harsh words she had for Garba Shehu late last year when she angrily demanded his resignation for allegedly interfering disrespectfully in her family matters by carrying out unpalatable instructions on the orders of her husband’s nephew, Mamman Daura.
Also felicitating with the newly weds, President Muhammadu Buhari sent a message of congratulations, urging them to learn to be patient with one another.
“The secret of successful marriages is in patience and tolerance for your partner. I urge you to banish anger, mistrust and impatience from your home,” the President advised the young couple.
The President was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; the Minister of Defence, Maj. General Bashir Magashi (rtd); and the Permanent Secretary, State House, Jalal Arabi.
The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje received the bride on behalf of Garba Shehu at the event which was also attended by Governors Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State, Simon Lalong of Plateau State, Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State and Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
