Protests erupted in Karmo, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on Monday following the killing of a 52-years-old resident, Solomon Eze, by a policeman.
There was tension as residents of the area embarked on a massive protest to express their displeasure over the incident.
However, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, has ordered for an investigation to unravel the circumstance that led to the killing of Eze.
In a statement signed by the FCT Command Spokesman, Manzah Anjuguri, the Commissioner commiserated with the family of the deceased and vowed to ensure that the truth is unraveled.
According to the statement: “The Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Bala Ciroma, has ordered a discreet investigation into an unfortunate gunshot incident that led to the death of one Solomon Eze, 52 years old, at Karimo on Sunday May 10, 2020, at about 6:00pm.
“The Policeman identified to have shot the deceased has been arrested and he is currently in detention.
“While commiserating with the family and friends of the deceased, the Commissioner of Police wishes to assure members of the public that the Command will be transparent in its investigation and the findings will be made public.”
