The Abuja chapter of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA) has elected new executive officials to run the affairs of the group for the next two years.

At the election which was conducted over the weekend, Mr. Uche Obasi emerged as President, with Mrs. Chinyere Offor as Vice-President and Mr. Kingsley Ogwudu as Secretary-General.

Barrister Shirley Monye is the Treasurer; Soboma West is the Public Relations Officer, while Ukoha Juliet is the Legal Adviser.

The post of Financial Secretary remains vacant while the immediate past president of the association, Barr. Jude Igwe, and outgoing Secretary-General, Dim Emeka Obasi, emerged as new Ex-Offio members of the new executive committee.

The University of Nigeria, popularly referred to as UNN, because of its main campus in Nsukka, Enugu State is one of Nigeria’s premier institutions of higher learning, renown for its academic excellence and distinguished alumni.

In his acceptance speech, the new president appreciated the association’s members for considering the new team worthy to serve in their capacities.

He also thanked the immediate past administration for the legacies it left behind while pledging to take the association to the next level; even as he prayed for the support of all and sundry to make this possible.

“Our branch Alumni Association no doubt has some challenges but we will overcome them because the ‘crack team’ you elected, already know these challenges.

“Lions and Lionesses, you are indeed very smart for this choice of executive you have made! This administration will come out with a working document after executive meeting and I am sure the unity, welfare and employment for our members will be adequately addressed.

“We shall also reach out to our national body and our Alma Mater. In all, we shall talk less and do more”, Obasi said.

In a statement issued afterwards on behalf of the executive members, the new Secretary-General thanked the electoral committee, made up of Chief Bode Agbaoye Agbaoye and Dr. Joy Ugwuegede for a job well done.

He equally extended special appreciation to some prominent members of the association like Senator Joy Emeodi; Professor Peter Onwuali; Engr. Emeka Nze; Chief Johnny Chukwu; Prof Chudi Uwazulike, Dr. Ejike Orji; Ex-Compol Emmanuel Ojukwu and many others for their consistent assistance to the success and unity of the alumni association.
