Presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sunday in Daura, Katsina State, paid Sallah homage to President Muhammadu Buhari, and informed the President of his choice of a running-mate, Senator Kashim Ibrahim Shettima, for the 2023 presidential election.
Shettima, a serving Senator representing Borno Central, was a former Governor of Borno State.
After conferring with President Buhari, the APC Presidential candidate, accompanied by Governor Aminu Bello Masari, told newsmen that the President had to be properly notified, before an announcement would be made.
Asiwaju said the choice was based on the competence of the candidate.
Below is his interaction with journalists after his meeting with the President:
Question: Why are you in Daura?
Because of the season and to pay homage to him and to share part of his holiday and lunch and equally discuss the question of my running mate. One person withdrew today and there’s already an announcement to replace him fully by a substantive…
Question: Who is the replacement?
Kashim Shettima. I have not discussed with him, but I’ve disclosed him since I’ve disclosed it to the President.
Question: How strong, united and formidable is your party ahead of the election?
We are going to win, insha Allah.
Question: Why are you so confident?
Because we are a progressive party and we have the focus on Nigeria’s problems. We’ll face these challenge squarely, we’re not running away from it. We have a better program for the people and about the people and are ready to serve.
Within a very short period of time, there’ll be a good foundation on infrastructure. We face the challenge of terrorism, we know that, it’s only a poor thinker and observer that will not recognize the challenge, but once you recognize a challenge, you can prepare yourself very well to tackle it and defeat it, and that is what our party is all about.
Question: Why Kashim Shettima?
Because he’s competent, capable, reliable, and able.
