Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, on Thursday met with President Muhammadu Buhari, after which he declared that he was having fun over the anxiety among Nigerians and international community concerning his reported presidential ambition in 2023.
This comes amid a presidential directive for appointees interested in contesting for elective posts in 2023 elections to resign by Monday.
While some Ministers have already resigned, eyes are on the CBN Governor to see if he would do the same.
Before he left the Presidential Villa after his meeting with Buhari, Emefiele was asked by State House correspondents to react to the development.
He replied: “There is no news now, but there will be news. You heard me, I said there is no news but there will be news”.
Reminded that his ambition is creating anxiety among a lot of Nigerians and the international community, Emefiele said that he was having fun over the development.
His words: “Let them have heart attack. It’s good to have heart attack. I am having a lot of fun.”
Emefiele’s visit to Aso Rock Villa came a day after Buhari ordered his appointees to quit their jobs if they are interested in contesting for elective positions in next year’s general elections.
The CBN Governor had even before then reportedly gone to court to challenge the public service rule that requires public office holders to resign their positions before contesting for elective positions.
Some farmers had reportedly procured the N100milion presidential nomination forms of the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC) for Emefiele, although he denied endorsing such a move.
Also, several vehicles adorned with Emefiele’s presidential campaign materials have been spotted in preparation for his formal declaration.
