The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared that Ramadan fast, an annual spiritual exercise by the Muslim faithful the world over, commences today, April 24, 2020.
The royal father who is also the President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, announced this at his palace in Sokoto State, on Thursday night.
According to the Sultan,the commencement of the fast followed reports of sighting of the moon across various states of the federation which marked the end of the month of Sha’aban 1441 AH.
He revealed that the Ramadan moon was sighted from different places across the country.
“In accordance with the Islamic shari’a, we announce today Thursday 29th, Sha’aban 1441 AH which is equivalent to April 23rd, 2020, has marked the end of the month of Sha’aban 1441 A.H, the development which followed reliable reports duly verified and certified by national moon sighting committees. Consequent upon which Friday April 24th, 2020 is first of Ramadan.
“We, therefore, call on Muslims to commence fasting on Friday,” the Sultan declared.
